The Reserve Bank is the sole authority for issue and management of currency in India under Section 22 of the RBI Act. The bank may issue notes of different denominations from Rs. 2 to Rs. 10,000 as the Central Government may decide on the recommendations of the Central Board of the bank. Such notes shall be legal tender at any place in India.
