CAN I GET CREDIT FOR THE PREVIOUS PPB EXAM | JAIIB EXAM 2024

This article will clarify whether your previous JAIIB 2024’s PPB paper’s credit score will be restored in the JAIIB 2024 exam.

This post is for those IIBF banking candidates who have positive confirmation for the following questions:

• You sat for JAIIB Principles & Practices of Banking in 2022 or 2023 but cleared only 1 or 2 of the 3 JAIIB Papers?
• And now you don’t understand how your credits earned in previous IIBF PPB Exams will work out in 2024?
• Or are you indecisive about whether or not you should forgo your PPB credits & register for Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers 2024 Exams fresh?
• Or you don’t know about any of the changes that IIBF has made applicable for PPB exams from 2024 onwards?

The 2024 syllabus of IIBF’s flagship courses has been updated and has undergone some well-deserved changes. So, let’s get into the details through our above-posed questions.

So, you sat for Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers & got credit for PPB in 2023/2022 or another paper but didn’t clear all JAIIB papers:

So, now you want to know whether or not your credits are valid for the 2024 Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers or not & how long they are valid if any. Well to better answer, we need to know in which attempt you first registered for JAIIB Exams and how many times/attempts are still pending.

IIBF gives credits for the Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers papers in which candidates had scored at least 50 marks. But under previous Rules & Syllabus, they used to expire in 2 years from the date of JAIIB registration. It’s crucial to note that if you registered for JAIIB 2022 or 2021 and received 50 OR MORE MARKS in any of the JAIIBs’ 3 papers—AFB, PPB, or LRAB—you are eligible to FORGOT THE PAPER. As a result, one of the following situations is easy to fall into:

1. You cleared JAIIB PPB only but neither AFB nor LRAB
2. You cleared JAIIB PPB & LRAB but not AFB
3. You cleared JAIIB LRAB only but neither ABM nor PPB

So, in the above scenarios……

1. How your credits earned in previous IIBF PPB Exams will work out in 2024?

That totally depends on the time you registered for JAIIB Exams:

You registered for JAIIB in MAY 2023 – You need to forgo all credits & register for JAIIB in 2024 afresh.

You registered for JAIIB in Nov 2023 (Feb 2024 postponement) – You can either – ‘forgo all credits if any, & register for JAIIB in 2023 afresh’ or give 2 more attempts in immediately next 3 attempts (MAY 2024, Nov 2023 & MAY 2025).

You registered for JAIIB in MAY 2024 – You can either – ‘forgo all credits, if any, & register for JAIIB in 2024 afresh’ or give 3 more attempts in immediately next 4 attempts (MAY 2024, Nov 2024, MAY 2025 & Nov 2025).

You registered for JAIIB in Nov 2024 – You can either – ‘forgo all credits, if any, & register for JAIIB in 2024 afresh’ or give 4 more attempts in immediately next 5 attempts (MAY 2024, Nov 2024, MAY 2025, Nov 2025 & MAY 2026).

You can choose whether or not to re-register or use your remaining attempts now that you are aware of how many attempts you have.

1. So, whether you should forgo your PPB credits & register for JAIIB 2024 fresh or not?

That depends entirely on how sure or confident are you that you will find a more viable time for studying in 2023 & the balance of attempts you have. The one sure thing is that you will be writing Papers 1 & 4 in whatever case.

My advice?

If you’ve got credits… Make the most of them and offer your best effort to the JAIIB 2024 endeavour. After all, you could have any or all of the following in any given situation:

• You will have to write fewer papers to satisfy a given number of credits.
• The fee for 2nd attempt onwards is less than the first-time registration.

1. What are the changes that IIBF has made applicable for JAIIB PPB exams from 2024 onwards?

From the aforementioned points, you would already be aware of some of the modifications. And to make them easy to understand, I’ll list them below:

• You can write JAIIB papers non-consecutively
• One can only keep their credit for five attempts.
• The registration period has been increased from 2 years to 3 years.
• Some of the modules/syllabus 2024 have been revised, (1 paper) deleted & newly (2 papers) added (discussed in detail in another article).
• You might need to enter the solution manually for some of the numerical questions (no options will be provided).
• Legal & Regulatory Aspects of Banking paper has been removed from JAIIB 2022 Syllabus.

So, how you should prepare the JAIIB paper for the 2024 Exams?

With the recent changes, you would have understood that JAIIB 2024 is going to be tougher than it already was. 

So, better to be prepared than not.

Register for JAIIB 2024 only after making up your mind!
