JAIIB EXAM DATE 2022: ELIGIBILITY, SYLLABUS, AND EXAM PATTERN

If you have joined the banking center you must have definitely heard about the JAIIB/ CAIIB exams. Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) conducts the JAIIB exam twice a year i.e in the month of May & September on the three consecutive Sundays of the month.

This exam is conducted for the post of Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers and aims to provide the basic knowledge in banking and financial services which is necessary to perform day-to-day banking operations.

JAIIB Exams that were postponed in August, 2021 are now going to be conducted in January 2022 as per the latest notification issued by IIBF. The dates for the same are as below:

WHAT IS THE JAIIB EXAM?

The jaiib exam is conducted for the recruitment of Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers who are responsible for managing the day-to-day banking and financial operations. This exam is only applicable to the already existing members of the IIBF organization and not to the common candidates.

JAIIB EXAM ELIGIBILITY

The eligibility criteria for Jaiib exam 2022 are listed below:

  • The candidate must be registered as an ordinary member of the institute.
  • Candidates must have passed the 12th standard examination in any discipline or its equivalent.
  • However, the candidate, if not the one who has passed the Matric exam and working in a bank, can be allowed to appear for the exam, at the discretion of the institute. However, such candidates need the recommendation of the Manager of the bank.
  • The subordinate staff of recognized Banking/ Financial Institutions in India, who are members of the Institute, are eligible to appear at the examination, provided they have passed the 12th standard examination or its equivalent.

HOW TO APPLY FOR JAIIB EXAM?

Candidates have to apply online for the JAIIB exam

If you want to know how to apply for the JAIIB exam you must follow the instructions given below-

  • Visit the official IIBF website i.e @org.in & click ‘flagship courses’ under the ‘Examination/courses’ option.
  • Now, select JAIIB exam 2022 & click on new registration.
  • Fill in the online application form of IIBF JAIIB. Candidates will have to enter their personal and educational details.
  • Upload all the required documents.
  • Submit the form to proceed to the next step.
  • Select the method of online payment & pay the application fee.

The candidates will get the details of the transaction and a confirmation message on the registered mobile number upon successful registration.

Laws Relating to Securities and Modes of Charging – II  It contains the concept of Lien; Pledge; Hypothecation etc.
Registration and Satisfaction of Charges  This unit tries to define what Charge is, the Procedure for Registration of charges; what is the effect of Non-registration of Charges; Various provisions of Law relating to Registration of Charges, etc.
Case Laws on Responsibility of Paying Bank  The unit will include the Case Laws on Negotiable Instruments Act and Paying Banks; what is the Liability of Paying Banker; Payment in due course; Payment in Good Faith; whether Payment under Mistake is Recoverable or not.
Case Laws on Responsibility of Collecting Bank It will contain information about how Collecting Bank has Statutory protection & Duties of Collecting Bank.
MODULE C – BANKING RELATED LAWS
Recovery of Debts due to Banks and Financial Institutions Act, 1993(DRT Act)  You will go through the various objects of the Act, Constitution of Tribunal, Procedure to be followed, Enforcement process, etc
Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest Act (SARFAESI)  It includes the concepts like Constitutional Validity; Definitions; Central Registry; Regulation & Reconstruction; Enforcement of Security Interest; Offences & Penalties and some Miscellaneous Provisions.
Banking Ombudsmen Scheme  The scheme tells us why its Purpose; Extent of its applicability; Definitions; Establishment; Powers and Procedure for Redressal Grievance 
Bankers Books Evidence Act, 1891  The act tells all about its applicability; Definitions and some Important Provisions
The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987  This Act let us go through the system of Lok Adalats- Organization; Jurisdiction; Disposal of Cases; Awards etc.
The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and CERSAI  It contains Introduction of the ACT, Extent & Definitions; Consumer Protection Councils; Objectives; Consumer Disputes Redressal Agencies; and important provisions of Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India, etc.
The Law of Limitation  Limitation Act tells defines what limitation is; how to compute the said Limitation & Important Provisions in the schedule to the Limitation Act.
Tax Laws  It includes taxes like Income Tax; Commodity Transaction Tax; Service Tax

MODULE D – COMMERCIAL LAWS WITH REFERENCE TO BANKING OPERATIONS
Indian Contract Act, 1872  It defines the meaning and essentials of contract and has concepts like Contract of Indemnity & Rights of Indemnity Holder; Contract of Guarantee; Contract of Bailment; Contract of Pledge; Contract of Agency

Indian Partnership Act, 1932  This act defines various terms & Types of Partnerships; Relation of partners to one another & to 3rd Parties; how a Minor gets admitted to the benefits of partnership; how is a firm Dissolved; Effect of non-registration; Limited liability partnerships formation, registration, rights, and liabilities of partners
Definition and features of a company  You will read the definition & features of a Company and the difference between Company and Partnership
The Companies Act, 1956 (Now Companies Act, 2013)  It mainly includes the definitions of various terms, Features & Types of companies; Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA & AOA); Doctrine of Ultra Vires, Constructive Notice, Indoor Management; Membership of Company Acquisition, Cessation, Register, Prospectus; Rights & Duties of Members, Directors; Winding up of Companies
Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999  FEMA, 1999 contains important Terms; Powers of RBI, Regulation & Management; Directorate of Enforcement.
Transfer of Property Act, 1882  This includes all about the Sale, Mortgage of Immovable Property; Sale with and without court intervention; Types of Mortgages; Lease of Immovable Property
The Right to Information Act, 2005  RTI Act tells us about its applicability; Definition and Important Provisions 
Right to Information and Obligation of Public Authorities  This includes the Obligations; Procedure; Disposal; Appeal; Orders; Penalties etc.
The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002  PMLA, 2002 tells us the obligations, which records are to be maintained; Procedure for Maintaining & Furnishing Information; Maintenance & Verifications of Records of Identity of Clients.

JAIIB EXAM PATTERN

The pattern of the JAIIB exam as per the latest and updated changes by IIBF is listed as below:

  • The duration of each paper in the JAIIB examination is of 2 hours.
  • Each paper consists of 120 objective-type multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks.
  • There is no provision for negative marking in case of wrong answers.
  • The examination will be held in online mode only.
  • The passing criteria are as follows:-
  1. Candidates must secure a minimum of 50 out of 100 marks in each exam.
  2. Candidates securing at least 45 marks in each subject with an aggregate of 50% marks in all subjects of examination in a single attempt will also be considered as having cleared the exam.
  • Candidate Have Only 4 Attempts in 2 years to Clear the Exam.
  • If the candidate fails to qualify for the exam within the time period of 2 years he will have to re-enroll himself again & no credits will be provided for the same.
  • The time limit of 2 years will start from the date of the application itself. The attempts will be counted whether the candidate appears for the exam or not.
