CAN I GET CREDIT FOR THE PREVIOUS ABM EXAM | CAIIB EXAM 2024

Are your confused about previous ABM  exam credit retention, then you need to read this article to find the answer to this.

Candidates complying with the following will clarify the process of credit retention:

• You sat for CAIIB Advanced Bank Management in 2023 or in 2022 but didn’t clear other papers?
• And now don’t know how your credits earned in previous CAIIB ABM Exams will work out in 2024.
• Or are you indecisive about whether or not you should forgo your Advanced Bank Management credits & register for CAIIB 2024 fresh?
• Or you don’t know about any of the changes that IIBF has made applicable for CAIIB exams from 2024 onwards?

The syllabus of IIBF’s flagship courses has finally been changed in 2024 to reflect some well-deserved changes. And it is difficult for some bankers to adjust to the changes, and some are simply waiting for the changes in IIBF certifications 2024 to actually come about. There’s no doubt that the other IIBF exams administered by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance will also undergo changes in the near future.

So, let’s dive deeper into the CAIIB details for ABM 2024 papers.

1. You sat for CAIIB Advanced Bank Management in 20244 or in 2021 but cleared only 1 or 2 of the 3 CAIIB papers?

So, you sat for the CAIIB Advanced Bank Management paper in 2021 or 2022 but did not successfully pass CAIIB in full in any of the attempts so far and don’t know the 2023 scenario for your Exam Status.

Well to better answer, we first need to understand when you first registered for CAIIB Exams and how many attempts/times are still pending in your favour (explained in 2nd Que).

IIBF gives credits for the Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers papers in which candidates had scored a minimum of 50 marks. But the credits expire in 2 years from the registration date. So, it’s important that if you registered in CAIIB 2023 or 2022 & did score 50 OR MORE MARKS in any of the CAIIBs’ papers: BFM, ABM & elective paper, then you are EXEMPTED TO SIT FOR THAT PAPER. So, you can fall into any 1 of the below cases:

1. You cleared CAIIB ABM only but neither BFM nor elective paper 2023-22
2. You cleared CAIIB ABM & Elective but not BFM 2023-22
3. You cleared the CAIIB Elective paper (other than Retail Banking) only but not BFM /ABM 2023-22 papers.
4. You cleared Retail Banking only but not any of the compulsory CAIIB Papers.

In that case:

1. In which future attempts, you will be able to use your IIBF Advanced Bank Management credits earned in previous CAIIB 2024 Exams?

That totally depends on the time you registered for CAIIB Exams in 2023/22:

If you registered for CAIIB Exams in June 2023: 

You are no longer eligible for any of the credits if any, you earned to date & register for CAIIB afresh in 2023.

If you registered for CAIIB Exams in December 2023(March 2024 postponement): 

You can either – ‘give 2 more attempts in immediately next 3 attempts (June 2023, Dec 2023 & June 2024)’ or ‘forgo all credits, if any, & register for CAIIB afresh in 2023’

If you registered for CAIIB Exams in June 2024: 

You can either –give 3 more attempts in immediately next 4 attempts (June 2023, Dec 2023, June 2024 & Dec 2024) or ‘forgo all credits, if any, & register for CAIIB in 2023 afresh’.

If you registered for CAIIB Exams in Dec 2024: 

You can either –‘give 4 more attempts in immediately next 5 attempts (June 2024, Dec 2024, June 2025, Dec 2025 & June 2026)’ or ‘forgo all credits, if any, & register for CAIIB in 2024 afresh’.

Now that you are clear about how many attempts you are remaining with you, you can decide if you are to re-register or give the balance attempts.

1. So, should you forgo your Advanced Bank Management credits & register for CAIIB 2024 fresh or not?

Well… how sure are you that you will find a more viable time for studying next year & will be able to utilize the balance of attempts. The sure thing is that you will be writing Papers 3 & 4 in whatever case maybe.

My suggestion?

If you have any exam credits that can be utilized – utilize them as many times as you can & give your attention towards the upcoming CAIIB 2024 attempt. After all, in any given case, you have either or all of the following:

• The more credits for papers you have, the less no. of papers you will be required to study for.
• The fee for 2nd attempt onwards < first-time registration.

1. What are the changes that IIBF has made applicable for CAIIB ABM exams from 2024 onwards?

You must have already understood some of the changes from the above points. But in simple terms, they are briefed below:

• Candidates can write CAIIB Exams non-consecutively from this time onwards
• The no. of attempts for which one can retain their credits has been increased from 4 to 5.
• The registration period for CAIIB has been increased to 3 years from 2 years.
• For some of the papers/modules applicable from 2023 onwards, syllabus have been revised, deleted & newly added (discussed in detail in another article).
• For the papers containing – numerical, candidates might have to enter the answer manually (no options will be provided for questions).
• The Retail Banking paper has been removed from CAIIB 2023 Elective Paper available under the Syllabus.

So, how should you prepare for the CAIIB Advanced Bank Management 2024?

With the above-mentioned changes, you would have understood that CAIIB Advanced Bank Management is going to be tougher than it already was. 

So, don’t take it as an easy opponent like JAIIB. So, don’t let yourself slide from the beginning!

My suggestion:

Only register for CAIIB 2024 Exams after – making up your mind!
