  • You sat for CAIIB BFM in 2023 or 2022 but you cleared only 1 or 2 of the 3 CAIIB papers?
  • And now don’t know how your credits earned in previous IIBF BFM Exams will work out in 2024.
  • Or are you indecisive about whether or not you should forgo your BFM credits & register for CAIIB 2024 fresh?
  • Or you don’t know about any of the changes that IIBF has made applicable for BFM exams from 2024 onwards?

So, IIBF has finally introduced & made some well-deserved changes in the 2024 syllabus of its flagship courses. Some bankers are finding it harder to come to terms with the changes & some are just waiting for the IIBF certifications 2024 to unfold. After all, it won’t be long before the other IIBF exams that are conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance will also be changed accordingly.

So, let’s get into the details through our above-listed questions.

  1. You sat for CAIIB BFM in 2023 or 2022 but you cleared only 1 or 2 of the 3 CAIIB papers?

So, you sat for the CAIIB Bank Financial Management paper in 2022 or 2021 but did not clear the other paper in any of the attempts so far and don’t know the 2023 scenario of your Exam.

Well to better answer, we need to understand when you first registered for CAIIB Exams and how much time/attempts are still pending in your favour (explained in 2nd Que)

IIBF gives credits for the CAIIB papers in which candidates had scored at least 50 marks. But they expire 2 years from the date of registration. So, it’s important that if you registered in CAIIB 2023 or 2022 & did score 50 OR MORE MARKS in any of the CAIIBs’ 3 papers: ABM, BFM & elective, then you get to NOT SIT FOR THE PAPER AGAIN. So, you can fall into one of the following scenarios:

  1. You cleared CAIIB BFM only but neither ABM nor elective paper
  2. You cleared CAIIB BFM & Elective but not ABM
  3. You cleared the CAIIB Elective paper (other than Retail Banking) only but neither ABM nor BFM
  4. You cleared Retail Banking only but not the compulsory CAIIB Papers.

So, in the above scenarios……

You have been Credited for: You will have to compulsorily write the papers:
BFM 1. Advanced Bank Management

3. Advanced Business & Financial Management

4. Banking Regulations & Business Laws

5. Elective paper

BFM & Elective paper 1. Advanced Bank Management

3. Advanced Business & Financial Management

4. Banking Regulations & Business Laws

Elective paper (other than Retail Banking) 1. Advanced Bank Management

2. Bank Financial Management

3. Advanced Business & Financial Management

4. Banking Regulations & Business Laws

Retail Banking 1. Advanced Bank Management

2. Bank Financial Management

3. Advanced Business & Financial Management

4. Banking Regulations & Business Laws

5. Elective paper

  1. How your credits earned in previous IIBF BFM Exams will work out in 2024?

That depends on the time you registered for CAIIB Exams:

You registered for CAIIB in June 2022. – You need to forgo all credits & register for CAIIB in 2023 afresh.

Did you register for CAIIB in Dec 2022 (March 2023 postponement)? – You can either – ‘forgo all credits if any, & register for CAIIB in 2024 afresh’ or give 2 more attempts immediately next 3 attempts (June 2024, Dec 2024 & June 2025).

Did you register for CAIIB in June 2023? – You can either – ‘forgo all credits if any, & register for CAIIB in 2024 afresh’ or give 3 more attempts immediately next 4 attempts (June 2024, Dec 2024, June 2025 & Dec 2025).

Did you register for CAIIB in Dec 2022? – You can either – ‘forgo all credits if any, & register for CAIIB in 2023 afresh’ or give 4 more attempts immediately next 5 attempts (June 2023, Dec 2023, June 2024, Dec 2024 & June 2025).

Now that you are clear on how many attempts you have, you can decide whether or not, you want to re-register or give the balance attempts.

  1. So, whether you should forgo your BFM credits & register for CAIIB 2024 fresh or not?

That depends entirely on how sure or confident are you that you will find a more viable time for studying in 2024 & the balance of attempts you have. The one sure thing is that you will be writing papers 3 & 4 in whatever case.

My advice?

If you have credits…. Utilize them as much as you can & give all your efforts in CAIIB 2023 attempt. After all, in any given case, you have either or all of the following:

  • The more no. of credits you have, the less no. of papers you will have to prepare for.
  • The fee for 2nd attempt onwards is less than the first-time registration.
  1. What are the changes that IIBF has made applicable for CAIIB BFM exams from 2024 onwards?

Some of the changes, you would already have understood from the above points. And to explain them simply, I will explain them to you below:

  • You can write CAIIB papers non-consecutively
  • The no. of attempts one can retain their credits for is 5.
  • The registration period has been increased from 2 years to 3 years.
  • Some of the modules/syllabus 2024 have been revised, deleted & newly added (discussed in detail in another article).
  • For some of the numerical, you might have to enter the answer manually (no options will be provided)
  • Retail Banking paper has been removed from CAIIB 2023 Syllabus.

So, how you should prepare the CAIIB paper for the 2024 Exams?

With the above-mentioned changes, you would have understood that CAIIB 2023 is going to be tougher than it already was.

So, better not to let yourself slide from the start.

My suggestion:

Only register for CAIIB 2024 after making up your mind!

Because guessing is not going to work in your favour anymore. IIBF demands only correct answers & not the could-be.
