IIBF JAIIB MAY 2023 EXAMS

As IIBF has conducted the last instalment of JAIIB exams under the old Syllabus for 2022, candidates:

  • who were not able to register for the November 2022 attempt for whatever reason; or
  • the candidates who have decided to sit for JAIIB MAY 2023 attempt, or
  • the candidate who attempted Nov 2022 but was not able to clear; or
  • those who cleared only 1 or 2 out of the 3 compulsory papers of Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Banker in NOV 2022.

would be desiring to know now what is going to happen in the upcoming May 2023 attempt of JAIIB under the revised syllabus 2023.

The revised syllabus/pattern of JAIIB (Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) is applicable for the May 2023 exam.

Under the new syllabus, there are 4 papers instead of 3 papers. Therefore, it is important to know, especially for those who had written the November 2022 exams whether and how they are going to get the credits for the papers they have cleared (scored a minimum of 50 marks in any of the papers in JAIIB Nov 2022 Exams or in other previous attempts).

IIBF has described the following 4 papers under the new syllabus, namely:

Paper 1 i.e., IE & IFS (Indian Economy & Indian Financial System)

Paper 2 i.e., PPB (Principles & Practices of Banking)

Paper 3 i.e., AFM (Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers)

Paper 4 i.e., RBWM (Retail Banking & Wealth Management)

Candidates should know that they must register for the exams within the time period prescribed by the Institute to be eligible for sitting in the JAIIB exam. Below are the changes that are recently introduced in the JAIIB 2023 examination:

  • Validation of registration: The candidates who will register for the first time for JAIIB, will be registered for the exam for 3 years instead of 2 years – which was in the case of old rules and syllabus.
  • The number of attempts: The new candidates will get a maximum of 5 attempts in the course of 3 years.
  • No Consecutive appearance in exams required: Now the candidates are not required to appear in the exams consecutively for the calculation of the number of attempts. This means that they can attempt any of the 5 attempts that are available in the 3-year time period.

Now on to the main topic of this article:

Will you get credits for the exams cleared in JAIIB 2022 for JAIIB MAY 2023 Exams?

The answer?

Yes and no.

Let me explain:

For some of the JAIIB papers (that remain unchanged), you will be getting the credits, & for some other papers (papers that have been replaced), you will not get the credits.

Let’s understand how it’s going to work:

JAIIB /DB&F /SOB 2023 EXAMS
No. Subjects U/Old Syllabus Eligibility for credits (Nov 2021, May 2022 & Nov 2022 credit) Credits for Subjects U/New Syllabus
1 Principles & Practices of Banking (PPB) Yes Principles & Practices of Banking (PPB)
2 Accounting & Finance for Bankers (AFB) Yes Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers (AFM)
3. Legal & Regulatory Aspects of Banking (LRAB) NIL Not applicable

Another thing that the Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers candidates would be having doubts about is:

Whether or not they have to re-register for JAIIB 2023 attempts?

That depends on the fact when you have passed JAIIB. Let me explain it in Q&A format:

  1. I registered in May 2021, do I have to register fresh for May JAIIB 2023?

Yes, you have exhausted your 2-year registration period. You will have to register for the May 2023 Exams of JAIIB fresh & forgo any credits, if any, earned in any attempts.

Other relevant Queries:

  1. Is the PASSING CRITERIA of the May JAIIB 2023 Exams/Revised Syllabus the same as that of what was applicable under the old Syllabus?

Yes with the only difference that there will be negative markings (25% of marks will be deducted for wrong answers.

Otherwise, it’s the same:

  • You have to get 50 marks on each paper; or
  • You have to get a minimum of 45 marks & have the aggregate of all papers to 200 marks (in a single attempt).

Important Note: The candidates who will be taking credits from previous JAIIB Exams, will have to get 50 marks in each of the papers they will be writing.

  1. What are the fees for Registration for the May 2023 Exams of Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers?

So, far there IIBF hasn’t mentioned anything in relation to the exam registration fee for the upcoming JAIIB Exams. So, to date, the fees that are applicable for JAIIB to bankers are:
