CAIIB BFM SYLLABUS PRIORITY | 2023

As the CAIIB Exam is considered to be one of the toughest examinations of IIBF, candidates preparing for the Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers Exam must know the important & scoring topics of CAIIB’s papers for the upcoming CAIIB November & December Attempt. Having an understanding of the CAIIB Exam Priority from the entire prescribed CAIIB Syllabus 2023 for the BFM paper & other subjects i.e. ABM & Electives helps greatly in passing the CAIIB Exam.

CAIIB EXAM 2023:

CAIIB stands for Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. It is a flagship course by IIBF conducted twice a year in June and December and can be applied only by the already existing members of the institute & who have qualified for the JAIIB exam. Only in-service employees of the banking sector are eligible to appear for CAIIB. Age is no bar for applicants. The upcoming exam dates for CAIIB are in November 2023 which will continue till December 2023, & can be checked out here.

The CAIIB exam consists of 2 compulsory papers and one elective paper from the available 6 options.

The compulsory subjects are –

• (ABM) Advanced Bank Management
• (BFM) Bank Financial Management
• (ABFM) Advanced Business & Financial Management
• (BRBL) Banking Regulations and Business Laws

CAIIB BANK FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

BFM is the second compulsory exam in CAIIB designed by IIBF & is usually considered the most difficult subject of CAIIB 2023. But with proper direction & knowing what to cover your chances of successfully passing it get very high. You have to prepare 4 modules of Bank Financial Management as prescribed by IIBF. These are as under:

• Module A: International Banking
• Module B: Risk Management
• Module C: Treasury Management
• Module D: Balance Sheet Management

CAIIB BFM MODULE B:

BFM is mainly based on the concept of Risk i.e. its identification, measurement, and mitigation or management or reduction. If you check out the components of all four modules, you will find that they all somehow revolve around RISK. Thus, your primary focus should be on Module B.

CAIIB BFM MODULE A:

Then, comes Module A: International Banking. This paper involves Foreign Exchange. The important topics include TT, Letter of Credit procedure, UCPDC- 600, Facilities available to exporters & related Case Studies, etc.

CAIIB BFM MODULE D:

The concepts of Asset Liability Management or Balance Sheet Management, Pillars of BASEL-III, Liquidity, and IRAC (Insecticide Resistance Action Committee) Norms for Asset classification are some of Module D‘s important topics. The most important is BESEL-III.

CAIIB BFM MODULE C:

You would need to cover the basic ideas of various Committees that are talked about in Module C along with the financial products, interest rate risk and money market instruments etc.

Although all the modules are equally important, you can clear the paper with three modules study (as per priority List: B, A & D) also. If you observe all the modules clearly, you will see that Module B and Module A are the most important and scoring modules.

THEORY or PRACTICAL?

And though CASE STUDIES has the most weightage that doesn’t mean you could ignore the theoretical concepts because they also form the major portion of the BFM Exam.

Therefore, you have to keep a balance between the both. Theoretical reading as well as case studies/numerical would contain 60-65% of theory & the rest of the portion would contain case studies.

An aspirant has to revise whatever he has studied otherwise he won’t retain any knowledge in the exam. To revise the syllabus refer to quick notes or brief notes that will assure you that you have covered that topic and help you boost your confidence.
